Protect the things that protect you
Rain turns small organization mistakes into bigger problems. Keep sleep layers, spare socks, and insulation in dry bags or sealed liners until the tent is fully ready.
Do not unpack everything at once. Create the dry sleeping area first, then move the rest of the camp into place.
Add a covered living space
A tent is for sleeping, not for doing every camp task in wet weather. A tarp or canopy gives you a place to cook safely where allowed, sort gear, and take off wet layers before entering the tent.
Pitch it with drainage in mind. A sagging tarp can collect water and become a problem instead of a solution.
Plan for wet exits and re-entry
Most mess happens at the doorway. A small mat, groundsheet edge, or designated wet area helps keep mud and soaked clothing away from sleeping gear.
Before bed, decide where wet boots, rainwear, and headlamps will live. Morning is easier when the essentials are not scattered in the dark.
